John Crane Biography

John Crane was born in 1731 in the Bristol County, Massachusetts town of Berkeley, where he resided at least long enough to be educated.

In about 1748, he moved to Norton, where he spent the remainder of his life.

In 1754 he married Rachel Terry, with whom he had six children. After 1772, he seems to have become a Captain and during the Revolution he served as a Captain in the 3rd Massachusetts (24th Continental) Regiment.

Between 1771 and 1794 he held numerous town offices, including Assessor (6 times), Moderator (also 6 times), Selectman (11 times), and as its representative to the Massachusetts House of Representatives once, in 1789.
