Description

"If You Don't Investigate Crescent Heights . . .  You Are the Loser."

Detailed tract map promoting Crescent Heights in West Hollywood.

The map is bounded by Sunset on the North, Santa Monica Blvd on the south, Crescent Avenue in the east and Sweetzer Avenue on the west side, with Crescent Height Blvd running down the center.

The pencil notes includes lot prices.  we assume that the coloring coding relates to home sales and lot sales. On the verso, a marvelous array of buildings in the Hollywood area are shown.

Norton & Hay began promoting Crescent Heights in the Los Angeles Times in February 1905, offering "large villa lots, 80 x 190 feet," with "magnificent views of the Cahuenga Valley" and water piped to each lot.  Lot prices ranged from $300 to $1500 each in March 1905.  By October, the first illustrations of homes built in the subdivision (at a cost of $8000) was being promoted in the Los Angeles Herald. The final advertisements were run in December 1906.
