Description

Unrecorded "Legislative Edition"

Rare (unique?) separately published "Legislative Edition" of Silas Chapman's map of Wisconsin.

The map noted that it is "Engraved & printed by L. Lipman, Practical Lithographer" in Milwaukee, with additional publication credits to McKenzie & Simmons of New York and Bamford & Baldwin of Chicago.

The map is divided into townships (with populations noted), with counties outlined in red.   At the right is a table noting the populations of larger cities and villages, with the largest cities given by wards.

A large portion of north central Wisconsin is still without township divisions and is shown completely blank.

Rarity

The present map appears to be unrecorded.  We note an 1861 map with the same title, but lacking the "Legislative Edition" title and population information in the Wisconsin Historical Society collection.

Condition Description
Toning at center and along folds. Minor loss at several fold intersections, repaired on verso.
