Description

Rare early view of the City of Geneva, engraved in Rome by Fornasieri and Gatti, for Cesari Capranica.

The map is oriented so as to look from the north toward the city, from across the lake.  Geneva is shown at the mouth of the Rhone River, just after its confluence with the Arne.

Several place names within Geneva can been seen along with the River Gate.  On the hillside at the left, several gallows are shown below the coat of arms.

In the foreground, an early bridge crosses the Rhone in the area of the modern Mont-Blanc Bridge.  Further up river, a bridge is shown crossing the Arne River.

Rarity

The view is very rare on the market. This is the first example we have ever seen offered for sale.
