Armorial Broadside of the Illustrious Persons of the Families of Provence

One sheet of Coussin's 6 sheet set the Armorial des Personnages Illustres des Familles de Provence, showing approximately 80 different illustrious persons.

The images provide a comprehensive overview of the illustrious figures from the noble families of Provence, showcasing their coats of arms and detailing their significant contributions and titles. These personages occupied various high-ranking positions, such as bishops, chamberlains, ambassadors, and military leaders, underscoring their pivotal roles in the political, religious, and military spheres of their time. The heraldic symbols meticulously detailed in the Armorial des Personnages Illustres des Familles de Provence reflect their esteemed status and heritage, preserving the legacy of these noble families and their enduring influence on the history of Provence.

The work is a meticulously crafted heraldic chart from the mid-18th century, specifically dated to June 3, 1754.   The print is divided into two main columns, each framed by grand Corinthian pillars, symbolizing the enduring strength and nobility of the families represented. At the top of the print, the Latin phrase "IMMORTALITATE MEMORIAS NOBILITAS" translates to "Nobility of Immortal Memory," setting a venerable tone for the document. The centerpiece of the print is an ornate cartouche containing the dedication and the date:

"Armorial of the Illustrious Persons of the Families of Provence Who Have Occupied High Dignities in the Kingdom of France and Episcopal Seats of Provence. Dedicated to My Lords the Syndics and Commissioners Possessing Chiefs of the Noble Body Elected Among the Members of the Same Body in Their General Assembly Held on June 3, 1674."
