Description

Rare large Yemeni published map of the Republic Yemen, published in Sana'a shortly after its unification in 1990.

This detailed map of the Republic of Yemen, created by Professor Husain A. Al-Dhamari, provides a comprehensive geographical representation of the country, with relief shown by gradient tints.

The map meticulously delineates the various topographical features of Yemen, including its mountainous regions, valleys, and coastal areas. The vibrant colors used in the map—primarily yellows, browns, and greens—highlight the diverse terrain, from the highlands to the desert regions.

The map clearly marks significant cities, towns, and villages, along with major roads and pathways, offering an invaluable resource for understanding Yemen's geographical and infrastructural layout. The surrounding areas, including parts of Saudi Arabia and Oman, are also indicated, providing a broader context of Yemen's geographical setting within the Arabian Peninsula.

The output of the maker, Hussain A. Al Dhamari, dates back to about 1971, with most of his output coming between 1971 and 1976.  It

The modern Republic of Yemen was formed on May 22, 1990, through the unification of the Yemen Arab Republic (North Yemen) and the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (South Yemen). This unification marked the culmination of efforts to merge the two states, which had existed separately for several decades. North Yemen gained independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1918, while South Yemen became independent from British colonial rule in 1967.

Yemen's recent history has been marked by significant turmoil. The Arab Spring of 2011 led to widespread protests against the government of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who had ruled North Yemen since 1978 and the unified Yemen since 1990. Saleh was eventually forced to resign in 2012, succeeded by his vice president, Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi. The situation in Yemen deteriorated further with the outbreak of a civil war in 2015. The conflict, involving various factions including Houthi rebels and forces loyal to Hadi, has resulted in a severe humanitarian crisis, drawing in regional powers such as Saudi Arabia and Iran.

As of the present day, Yemen remains embroiled in conflict, with significant portions of its territory controlled by different factions.
