Description

Fine early pictorial map and promotional guide for Fawcett's Breezy Point, "America's Finest Summer Playground."

The map presents a fine pictorial image of the resort grounds on Pelican Lake, wtih 4 images on the front and 8 on the back highlighting different parts of the resort.  Small area map on verso.

The history of Breezy Point is indelibly tied to the iconic Breezy Point Lodge, whose origins trace back to 1921 when it was built as the centerpiece of the resort. This lodge was the vision of Wilfred Hamilton "Cap" Fawcett, founder of Fawcett Publications. His idea was to establish a retreat that would offer both tranquility and recreation to families and individuals alike. Fawcett chose a picturesque lakeside setting for the lodge, purchasing a 160-acre tract on the western shore of Pelican Lake in Minnesota.

In 1921, Fawcett's vision came to life with the construction of the main lodge, built to be the focal point of the resort. The structure was notable for its log design, featuring a spacious layout with a large dining hall and dance floor. The work on the lodge began with a crew of skilled carpenters, masons, and craftsmen who meticulously laid each log, creating a structure that was both sturdy and emblematic of the rustic elegance sought by visitors of the era.

The lodge quickly became a beloved landmark and was expanded to meet the growing demand. By the summer of 1922, additional accommodations were ready, just in time to welcome the influx of guests for the season. These expansions included a golf course, the Traditional, which became a central feature of the resort. This golf course was designed by Tom Vardon and completed the following year, 1923, adding a prestigious allure to the resort's offerings.  In 1924-1925, the famed Breezy Point Lodge was built, opening in June 1925. By the early 1930s, it was a playground for the rich, including Hollywood celebrities such as Clark Gable, Carole Lombard and Tom Mix and famous athletes, including Jack Dempsey.
