Description

Space Race and Moon Landing

Attractive poster produced by Nelson Doubleday Inc. to capitalize on the global interest in space explorations and plans for a Lunar landing. The poster showcases U.S. space exploration, highlighting the Gemini, Mercury, and Apollo missions that had previously ventured into outer space. Several illustrations show the trajectory of the Gemini and Agena which marked the United States' first orbit of Earth and provided practice for the Lunar landing. On the other side of the poster is a diagram for the hypothesized route of the Lunar module that would bring men to the moon.

The depiction of the Saturn V dates this poster to around 1968 while the lack of specific mention of a successful moon landing likely means this was produced before the Apollo 11 mission. It is an interesting look at the late Space Race and a reminder of the fervor generated by space travel in the late 1960s.
