Description

Midcentury map of Istanbul, published during a period of rapid development in Turkey's tourism industry following the 1953 Tourism Industry Encouragement Law No. 6086 (Turizm Endüstrisini Teşvik Kanunu) which exempted investors from taxation for 10 years.

After Hilton Istanbul (1955) and Divan Istanbul (1956) and before Haliç Bridge (1971) was built and the Alp Hotel (formerly Hotel d'Angleterre) was destroyed. This map likely dates to the 1960s as the Ministry of Press-Publication and Tourism, created in 1957 from the Press-Publication and Tourism General Directorate, is credited.
