Photograph of Monte Game at Minco, Oklahoma Territory

An unusual outdoor scene of Wichitas playing cards at a ranch near Minco, Oklahoma Territory. The verso of the mount has an old pencil inscription: "Wichita Indians Playing Monté at the O2 Ranch, Minco, I.T."

The photograph is by noted photographer, William E. Irwin, who made many images of Plains Indians and was active in Indiain Territory in the 1890s to early 1900s. He maintained a studio in Chickasha, Indian Territory.

Condition Description
Original photograph print (sepia-toned), on card mount. Lower right corner of mount torn and taped (on verso), image not affected. Old outline dampstain to left side of image. Else in good condition. Signed in print on mount: Irwin / Chickasha, Ind. Ter."
