Description

The hand-colored lithograph "Destruction By Fire, of Both Houses of Parliament. On Thursday Night 16th Oct. 1834. Sketched from the River Thames, by H. O'Neill," is a historical record of one of the more devastating events in London history. The print shows the destruction of the Houses of Parliament, also known as the Palace of Westminster, in London, which occurred on October 16, 1834. The lithograph was published in London by W. Spooner, at 249 Regent Street and Oxford Street.

The print captures the scene from the River Thames, showing the burning buildings and the people in boats watching the blaze. It includes several key buildings and structures, such as the Parliamentary Offices, the Painted Chamber, the Library of the House of Commons, Mr. Ley's House, the House of Commons, the Roof of Westminster Hall, and the Speaker's House. This lithograph is an important visual record of this historical event, and it is a valuable document for historians, researchers, and people interested in British history and architecture.
