Description

Los Angeles Pictorial Rarity

Rare Mary Hall Atwood pictorial map of the area around Los Angeles, published in 1935.

The composition is drawn stylistically from Atwood's Complete Map of Los Angeles Area and Guide To Olympic Games, with the color scheme and vignettes changed, but the style is identical.

The main map and three side maps are completely re-drawn, with significantly more detail than the original Los Angeles map, and different vignettes on the side maps, but the regions covered are identical, or nearly so.

Unlike the original map, this map is focused generally on promoting tourism in Southern California.  Mary Hall Atwood produced a similar map promoting Long Beach.

Rarity

The map is very rare. We were unable to locate another example, although we believe OldImprints may have offered an example for sale in recent years, based upon an Instagram posting indexed by Google.

Condition Description
Soiling and abrasions in the lower left corner and center left margin, just affecting the printed image.
