A Lindgren Rarity

Exceptionally rare Jolly Lindgren pictorial map promoting the gas station locations operated by the H. Earl Clack Company.

The present map would seem to be a unique or very unusal example of the Lindgen Brothers work.  With the exception of a calendar done for the Lindgen Brothers, this is the first example of a map done to promote a private company, rather than a National Park or promoting a state or similar governmental organization.  The only other map which has a similar commercial sponsor would be the map of the State of Washington done for Bohemian Breweries Inc. of Spokane.

The present map is also highly unusual in that it incorporates 2 Lindgen Brothers maps and additional artwork.

The H. Earl Clack Company operated from the 1930s until it was purchaed by Huskey Oil in 1957.  One of its gas stations (in Havre, Montana) remains as a museum and is listed in the  National Register of Historic Places.

The larger map covers eastern Washington State, Idaho, and western Montana. The smaller map on the verso covers the rest of Montana and western North Dakota.

The maps feature the characteristic Lindgren irreverent cartoon humor and vibrant yellow and blue color scheme.

The map was produced for the H. Earl Clack Co. service stations and auto courts, which were headquartered in Havre, Montana. The covers include the following text about the service stations:
