Description

Delightful late-19th-century pocket atlas of Californian counties, drawn by Edward E. Eitel and published for the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company in San Francisco.

The atlas shows the various counties across twenty maps, with railroads and roads shown. Mileage markers are shown for roads, indicating the main thoroughfares between cities. A list of officers of the counties appears on the back.

Advertisements for the Fireman's Fund pepper the pages of the atlas, with various claims such as "The wise man Insures with the Fireman's Fund Ins. Co. and then trusts the Lord. N. B. - The other Fellow does not," "Future fires (in this world) can have no terrors for those who insure with the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company," and "The Fireman's Fund Ins. Co. is Liberal and Progressive."

The atlas was first published in 1894.
