Description

Scarce and delightful folding panorama of the view from Mt. Rigi, overlooking Lucerne and Zurich.

The lithograph is beautifully designed, showing the gorgeous scenery of central Switzerland. Many high mountains are depicted, and they are all named with their altitudes provided. The Zugersee, Obersee, Zurich, Lucerne, and Zug are all shown. The Rigi Kulm Hotel at the summit, established in 1816, is depicted in the foreground.

Instructions for the use of the panorama are provided. A list of the many sites visible on the verso is given. The map folds to reveal a series of letters, a through l, which allows for the easy unfolding of the view.

Rigi was one of the most popular mountains of the Swiss Alps. it was the subject of numerous Turner paintings, now held at the Tate Britain, and Mark Twain wrote about his time on the mountain.

This original antique print was produced by Keller & Co in Lucerne.
