Description

Nice plan of Boston showing the city as it stood during the Revolutionary Era to accompany a French edition of J. Fenimore Cooper's Lionel Lincoln.

The map is beautifully engraved and shows Boston and its surroundings. A small settlement can be seen at Charleston, and Cambridge is far from any other piece of town. Topography, rivers, and roads are given particular focus and many toponyms appear.

This map was part of an illustrated French set of Cooper's works that included a number of maps. This map accompanies Lionel Lincoln, Cooper's 1825 novel set during the American Revolution that discusses the trials of an American-born soldier who fought for the British side.
