Description
Early Hiking Map of Mount Desert Island, Maine.
Attractive trail map of eastern Mount Desert Island, showing Bar Harbor, Otter Creek, Northeast Harbor, etc. Compiled by three mapmakers in 1903.
The map borrows topography and hydrograph from "the Map of Mount Desert Island issued by the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey, June, 1892." and gets its nomenclature (revised and corrected) from the June 1893 map for "the Flora of Mount Desert Island".
The map was printed by Geo. H. Walker & Co. of Boston. The map is copyrighted 1886, 1901, and 1903, suggesting at least two prior editions.

Three-stone color-lithograph. Segmented in 12 parts and mounted on linen.
