Description

Nice dark impression of this early view of the Indian Village at Nootka, with inhabitants and members of the Cook expedition in the foreground. From the first French edition of the Official Account of Cook's Third Voyage. The scene was sketched by John Webber, a talented young artist who accompanied Capt. James Cook on his third voyage to the Pacific in 1776-1780 and engraved by master engraver Robert Benard, in Paris.
