Description

Gorgeous example of Magnus' war map showing the 150 miles around Richmond, including remarkable contemporary details. Magnus' map was a commercial success and was issued in at least 13 editions. The present edition is the earliset identified by Stephenson (632.2), and includes portraits of Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant, along with 13 smaller inset maps. This example is on original linen with pink silked edges. While the map does appear on the market periodically, we have never seen the map dissected and laid on linen with original silk borders. A very nice example of this early state of the map.
