Description

Map of the United States and Canada showing Northwest Airlines coach-class services offered in 1953. The map makes much of these economical routes, a concept that was evidently foreign to many travelers at the time.

The map itself shows the routes operated by Northwest Airlines and its partnered companies. This service connects between New York on the east coast and Seattle and Portland on the west. Many pictorial elements are included, with the regional flavors of the US expressed.

Northwest Airlines was originally founded in 1926 and would grow to dominate the trans-Pacific market. Its Air Coach service was developed in the mid-1950s to cater to a tourist-class of passenger who wanted some comforts but at reduced prices.
