Description

Scarce map showing the extent of the Arctic Explorations through 1827. Includes the various explorer's routes and significant discoveries. Includes 5 engravings of coastal views, including Baffin Bay, Burnet's Inlet, Coppermine River, and the south side of Scoresby's Sound. Alaska is Russian Settlements and the coastline is still quite inaccurate and conjectural. Includes notes on the MacKenzie's discoveries and the point reached by the Blossom Boat. Many of the early Hudson Bay Trading Houses are noted. A scarce map, with no listing in dealer catalogues in the past 20 years. Minor centerfold discoloration and a bit of residue from some old tape on the verso, but not detracting from the image. The first time we have seen this map in 13 years.
