Fedor Jagor was perhaps the most meticulous observer of Philippine life and customs.  Jagor was a German ethnologist, naturalist and explorer who traveled throughout Asia in the second half of the 19th century collecting for Berlin museums. His extensive correspondence with Rudolf Virchow regarding his travel experiences and observations was memorialized in several books

Jagor was one of the earliest Europeans to climb Mt. Mayon.  He explored the caves of the Visayas and describes his travels to Bicol, Samar & Leyte.
