Description

Manuscript 19th-century Galveston Survey Map.

Unique manuscript map of an early addition to Galveston, Texas, produced by a Galveston-based surveyor circa 1895.

The addition probably occurred (or was to occur) on the west side of the City of Galveston, where much development and real estate speculation was going on at the end of the 19th century. The major street of the Park Place Addition is recorded as "Green Street", though no such street exists in Galveston today -- the vast majority of north-south streets being numbered.

An illustration of an easel bears the following certificate: "The undersigned certifies that he surveyed and platted the above named Addition and that the same is true and correct; and also that the land is high and nice. R.W. Luttrell. Surveyor and Engineer Galveston Tex. #508 Tremont St."
