Description

Mapping The Boxer Rebellion

Rare set of 3 maps illustrating the theater of war during the Boxer Rebellion, issued in Berlin by Dietrich Reimer.

Published in the second year of the Boxer Rebellion (1899-1901), the maps would seem to have been published to inform Berliners of the regions in which the war was being waged.

The first map appears in Jeremy Black's Maps of War: Mapping Conflict Through the Centuries, to illustrate the Theater of Operations in China, illustrating the original in the Library of Congress.

Rarity

The maps are apparently very rare.  The Library of Congress would appear to have 2 of the 3 maps and several national libraries have 1 or 2 of the maps, but the only complete sets seem to be in two German Libraries.
