Description

The map memorializes travels through northern Iran at the beginning of the 18th Century.

"Zurabek" is Ahmet Durri Effendi, who was in Istanbul in 1721 after his return from his Persian embassy. On 24th December, 1721, this distinguished  savant, together with Vehbi the poet, Velieddin the calligrapher, and Rashid the historian and continuator of Naima, occupied places of honor opposite the Grand Vizier, Damat Ibrahim Pasa trgiplti, during the spectacular reception n held to welcome the visiting Persian ambassador, Murteza Kuli Khan, himself a noted wit and scholar.

Ahmet Durri was certainly acquainted with the Polish Jesuit, Judas Thaddeus Krusinski, who was Procurator-General of the missions in Persia at the time of Ahmet Durri's embassy to Isfahan in 1720. Krusinski published Durri's report on Persia in Lvov in 1733 as a "Prodromus" to his own memoirs.
