Description

A striking example of Rufus Blanchard's broadside of the Declaration of Independence.

The image is surmounted by a portrait of George Washington with medallions of Justice and Liberty.  The seals of each of the original 13 states is given, along with the names of the major Generals of the American Revolution.  Biographical information for Washington and Lafayette appears in the lower corners.

At the center is the text of the declaration, with signature images

The credit at the lower right is to Thayer, Bridgeman and Fanning of New York.  At the right is a credit to Humphrey Phelps, with the date of 1845.

The Rufus Blanchard credit is quite unusual
