Fine early photo-lithographic reduction of P.E. Gifford's rare map of Santa Barbara, published by the Los Angeles Lithographic Company, circa 1898.
The view looks at Santa Barbara from the Northwest, with the Pacific Ocean and Santa Barbara pier in the distance.
The view is surrounded by images of the Santa Barbara Mission, Cottage Hospital ,the home of Louis G. Dreyfus, the Women's Club and some of Santa Barbara's most important commercial buildings, churches, hotels, schools and City Hall.
One of the images is advertising for N.H. Reed, Photographer, Portraits & Views.
Rarity
We find no record of this edition of the map and only a single example of Gifford's original 1898 view in the Library of Congress.
