Fascinating historical pictorial map of Chicago, illustrating the town and its environs in 1833.

The map is oriented with west at the top, and was reconstucted from an original map of Chicago from the period, with help from Caroline McIlvaine, who served as historical advisor.

The map was issued to celbrate the Chicago centennial in 1933, showing Chicago as a small settlement of only four square blocks near where the Chicago River empties into Lake Michigan.

Decorated with small illustrations of wild and domestic animals and a stagecoach. A Native American couple rests beneath a tree in the lower left corner, a tepee behind them. In addition, a Native American canoe and a fur trapper’s boat travel on Lake Michigan.
