Description

Scarce early map of the United States, which appeared in Hilliard d'Auberteuil's Essais Historiques et Politiques sur les Anglo-Americains . . . , published in Brussels in 1782.

The map provides a fine early depiction of the United States at the end of the American Revolution. A number of early roads are shown, along with many place names.

A note running through modern day Ohio and then between Lake Erie and Lake Huron notes the "pays sauvages ci-devant sous la protection du Roi D'Angleterre" (Wild Indian Region under the protection of the King of England). Many Indian Tribes are noted west of the Alleghany and Appalachian Mountains.

The map is quite rare on the market. This is the first example we have offered, with no examples listed in AMPR.
