Description

One of the First English-Language Maps of the United States.

Engraved map of the United States, published in the European Magazine, by John Fielding, in 1783 the year that the United States was recognized by the United Kingdom.

The map was subsequently published in John Andrews' History of the War with America, France, Spain, and Holland in 1785, with the date changed. This is the first state.

The map takes particular care to render the maritime limits of the territory of the United States, shown with a dotted line in the Atlantic.

The map features an unusual Maine-Canada border.

Forts and Indian tribes are labeled west of the Appalachian Mountains.
