Scarce regional map of parts of Poland and Ukraine.

The map shows the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, which was a crown land of the Habsburg Monarchy, acquired during the first partition of Poland and extending southeast to Bukowina, which is shown here shortly before the beginning of the Turkish occupation in 1769.

The map shows major cities, villages, towns, hamlets, post routes, and post offices are marked on the map, with a French key to the symbols.   

Tobias Conrad Lotter Biography

Tobias Conrad Lotter (1717-1777) is one of the best-known German mapmakers of the eighteenth century. He engraved many of the maps published by Matthaus Seutter, to whose daughter Lotter was married. He took over Seutter’s business in 1756. Lotter’s son, M. A. Lotter, succeeded his father in the business.
