Description

Marvelous early map of the area around Lake Michigan and to the west.

Includes all of Michigan Territory and Huron or the Northwest Territory, along with part of Illinois. The upper counties of Michigan have not yet been formed, nor is the Upper Peninsula a part of Michigan yet. The early Indian Boundary is noted, as are the lands of the Ottowas and Miamis. In the Northwest Territory, the map extends to the Mississippi River and the Rufus of Chipeways River, showing massive areas for the Michilimackinac, Menomonies, and Winnebagos, along with massive Crawford and Brown Counties and a smaller Iowa County in the southeast corner.

The Greenbay Township is noted, as is the Indian Boundary of 1829 in Illinois. Most of the settlement lies south of the Fox River. Many Indian Villages are noted, along with early forts and factories. There are also an number of early roads. Massive Joe Davis County dominates northern Illinois. One of the best early regional maps of the period.
