Description

Rare double hemisphere map of the world.

The map is drawn from the Visscher-Berchem map of 1658.

California is shown as an island, with the coast to the north stretching westward and labeled Nova Albion.

Tasman's discoveries are shown in New Zealand and Australia, along with subsequent voyages.  

 Two astronomical diagrams are placed between the hemispheres showing the Copernican and Ptolemaic solar systems. In the corners are beautifully rendered scenes of traditional mythology representing the four elements Fire, Air, Water and Earth. Published in a Dutch Bible.
