Description

Scarce map of Mexico, Texas, Upper California, New Mexico and part of Louisiana, published in London in 1827.

Issued shortly before the settlements of Steven F. Austin began to appear on the map in Texas, the map provides a nice image of the Southwest, 9 years after the conclusion of the Adams-Onis Treaty and 6 years after Mexican Independence from Spain was complete.

Nice detail along the Rio Grande as far north as Taos, New Mexico.

The Missions in California are noted, as far North as San Francisco, with settlements also shown in Arizona along the Rio Colorado,

The mythical R. Martires and R. Piramides are also shown, as is the mythical Rio San Felipe in California.
