Description

Finely executed manuscript plan of the harbor of Cartagena, drawn by Josef Lahaurie, a Pilot in the Spanish Royal Armada.

The chart was executed at the end of the American Revolution.

The present chart is of greater interest because it seems to have also been used for navigational purposes, with numerous pencil notes showing actual use at sea.

The table identifies 18 points of interest around the harbor.

Josef Lahaurie's manuscript charts in the Americas are well documented, including the following:

Similarly, Don Pedro Rivelles's name shows up on a number of other maps within the Americas.

A fine example of a manuscript plan of a major South American port.
