Description

Scarce separately published map of the District of Columbia and contiguous parts of Virginia, prepared by the Army Corps of Engineers for the Commissioners of the District of Columbia.

The map includes the names of many landowners in the outlying areas, as well as the density of the city.

The map was compiled from maps made by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey 1879-84, military maps made in 1861-65, Boschke's map of 1861 and Carpenter's Assessment maps from 1882.

The map was re-issued in 1889 on a much larger scale.
