Description

Detailed map showing the region around Davenport Iowa and Rock Island Illinois, derived from Robert E. Lee's important mapping of the region, completed in 1837.

The map was part of a larger effort by the Federal Goverment to survey and improve the navigable waters and canals of America, primarily compiled between 1825 and 1843, under the auspices of the US War Department's Bureau of Engineers, the forerunner to the Army Corps of Engineers.

The map is quite scarce--this is the first example we have seen on the market.
