Description

Fascinating Soviet map and promotional brochure, prepared for the USSR Section of the Brussels Universal and International Exhibition, 1858.

The map shows the Russians at the North Pole and prosperously exploiting their bountiful natural resources.

The brochure includes text and images extolling the virtues of the Soviet Union, including booming industrial production per capita, the young educated population and the progressive fashion and lifestyle enjoyed by the populace. For example, "In 1956, citizens received a million and a half flats from the state. During the whole time of the Soviet rule three and a half times as many flats have been built as there were in all towns in tsarist Russia. . . "
