Description

Decorative old color example of Joannes De Ram's extremely rare map of America.

Includes California as an Island, no sign of the Great Lakes, non-existent coastline north of the Island of California and misprojected South America.

The map predates La Salle's information on the interior of North America, but includes excellent detail in Canada and the East Coast of North America, noting James Towne, Virginia, New Netherlands, Lange Eylande, and other important information in the Northeast.

California is shown as an island on the second Sanson Model, with many early place names.

This is among the rarest of all maps to show California as an island. This is the first example of the map we have ever seen offered for sale and especially nice in such fine condition.
