Description

Rare birdseye view of Annapolis, Maryland, published by Charles Magnus in New York.

The map is dedicated to Major General Ambrose E. Burnside, Commanding Officer of the 9th Army Corps.

Burnside assumed command of the newly formed IX Corps in April, 1864. The corps was composed of the four divisions of General Thomas G. Stevenson, General Robert B. Potter, General Orlando Bolivar Willcox, and General Edward Ferrero, the latter division being composed wholly of African-American troops.

The view is very rare. Reps locates only 3 examples. We note only 2 examples in dealer catalogs, none since 1990.
