Rare separately issued map of the Mineral Resources of Southwest Virginia (and railway facilities), published by Charles Rufus Boyd, Civil Engineer and Geologist, and printed by JL Smith of Philadelphia in 1891.
The map tracks the mountain ranges extending from Asheville, North Carolina, and Knoxville, Tennessee, in the south, to the area around Lexington, Virginia and Staunton, Virginia. The map is colored by mineral composition and includes dozens of operating railroads in the region.
This is apparently the second edition of the map, which Boyd first issued in 1886. OCLC locates 2 examples, Berea College and Harvard. We also note an example in the Virginia State Library collection, but in very poor condition. We suspect most examples were issued in wall map format and therefore are not in good condition, such as the UVA example: search.lib.virginia.edu/catalog/uva-lib:1003512
