Description
Fine large format map of Spain and Portugal, by Hieronymus Benedicti, after Thomas Lopez, published by Artaria & Co., in Vienna.
This fine map of the Iberian Peninsula was issued in the year of the commencement of the Peninsular Wars, when Napoleon's forces occupied the Iberian Peninsula and Joseph Bonaparte took the throne of Spain.
The present example is the 3rd edition of the map, preceded by editions of 1800 and 1807.
All editions of the map are scarce. We note only a single example of any edition of the map in an American institution.
