Description
Finely engraved portrait of Nicolas De Fer, Geographer to the King and one of the most important map makers of the early 18th Century.
The portrait was engraved posthumously by Jacques-François Benard, De Fer's successor, for inclusion in his folio atlases.
Per Ashley Baynton Williams, this is the first state, with the text below the portrait in the first person: 'j'ay'. The second state has the text in the third person.
