Description

Rare 17th Century broadside plan of the siege of Heraklion and birdseye view of the City of Candia (Crete, published in France by Antoine de Fer and engraved by Romeyn De Hooghe.

The broadside combines De Fer's plan of the siege of Heraklion, first published in 1669, with a finely executed view of the City, illustrating the siege in the foreground, with the galleys of the Knights of Malta arriving in support of the besieged City.

While the Siege Plan is recorded, we were able to locate only one example of the combination of the map and view in a single broadside. All other recorded examples bear the date 1669.
