This mezzotint, titled Africanische Jagt, created circa 1740 by George Philipp Rugendas in Augsburg, strikingly portrays the intensity of an elephant hunt in Africa. The scene vividly captures an elephant, besieged by multiple hunters, grappling with two of them in the foreground with its trunk while others continue their assault with arrows and spears from the flanks.

[New Increasing Latitude Sea Chart of the Coast of Guinea and Brazil stretching from Cape Verde to the Cape of Good Hope and Further from the Berbice River to the Rio de la Plata.]

A handsome example of this rare two-sheet sea chart of the Coasts of Brazil, West Africa, and South Africa, published by Johannes Van Keulen (the younger) around 1726. According to de Vries, Schilder, Bruyns, van Iterson, and Jacobs, in The Van Keulen Cartography, the chart was first published separately around 1726 and subsequently began appearing in atlases in 1728. It was printed until about 1755.
