Description

Scarce War Department Map of Porto Rico, prepared by Majro William A. Glassford, Signal Officer in charge of U.S. Military Telepgraph Lines, under the direction of Brigadier General A.W. Greely, Chief Signal Officer.

The map includes symbols showing the locations of Military Post and Telegraph or Telephone Stations, Telegraph Offices operated by the Signal Corps, Telephone Stateions, Single Line Telegraphs, Double Line Telegraphs, and Heliograph Lines.

The map indicates that it is "Based on map furnished by the War Department, Adjuntant General Office, Military Information Division." The map key notes the symbols for High Roads, Country Roads, Railroads in operation and under construction, the Capitol, towns, LIght Houses and Trails.

The map is quite scarce. This is the first time we have seen the map on the market and there are no auction or dealer records on AMPR or otherwise for this map.
