Detailed manuscript survey of land owned by Samuell Davenport approximately 1/2 mile west of Allentown, New Jersey, on the road Road from Burlington to Amboy, surveyed by order of James Alexander in June 1752.
The land in question is locate west of Allentown, New Jersey, bordering on the lands of Amos Middleton and Elizabeth Robbins. The instruction given by James Alexander, Surveyor General of the Province of New Jersey, to deputy surveyor Edmund Beakes, is recited as follows:
Pursuant to thy order to me Directed xxxx date this 20th of May anno Dom 1752 Requireing (sic) me to Survye for Samll. Davenport Seventy Two Acres of Land any were in ye Western Division being Purchased of ye Indians & not before Appropriated in obdedience to they said Order I have Survey'd and taken up for ye said Samll. Davenport ye said Tract . . .
Edmund Beakes was a Deputy Surveyor in the Colony of New Jersey, working under the direction ofJames Alexander, Surveyor General (and later Governor) of New Jersey in middle of the 18th Century.
