Detailed manuscript survey of the land owned by Samuel Davenport, surveyed by order of James Alexander.
The land in question, bounded by Doctor Creek, Little Bridge Run and (Old) York Road, near Allentown, New Jersey, was contiguous to the land owned by Elisabeth Robbins (Robbinsville?) and Amos Middleton, just north of the Road form Burlington to New York City. The land had apparently been purchased by Davenport from the Indians, but had never been surveyed or confirmed to Davenport prior to this survey.
The introductory note states:
Lord James Alexander
Pursuant to thy Order to me bareing (sic) Date ye 20th of May Anno: Dom: 1752 Requiring me to take up ye Survey for Samll. Devenport (sic) Seventy Eight Acres of Land any were in ye Western Division being Legally Purchesed (sic) of the Indians & not before Appropriated . . .
Edmund Beakes was a Deputy Surveyor in the Colony of New Jersey, working under the direction ofJames Alexander, Surveyor General (and later Governor) of New Jersey in middle of the 18th Century.
