Description

Nice example Aitkens' plan of the American lines at the Siege of Boston, one of the earliest battle plans of the American Revolution, having been published only a few months after the battle if Bunker Hill in June 1775. The present example is offered with the August 1775 edition of the Pennsylvania Magazine, in which the map appeared.

Aitken's map depicts the British fortifications at the entrance to Boston Neck in the Summer of 1775, along what would become Washington Street. Includes 2 lines of fortifications, gun emplacements, etc. The map appeared in August 1775 in the Pennsylvania Magazine, then edited by Thomas Paine. The third Battle Plan of the American Revolution, predated only by two smaller maps of Boston which appeared in the months prior to this map.

The map is quite scarce, with only 4 appearances in a dealer catalogues between 1993 and 2008.
