Description
Very rare 4 sheet blue-backed sea chart of the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean, focusing on the trading routes from the the East Coast of Africa to Canton and New Zealand, published by J.W. Norie, the successor to Steel.
Excellent detail throughout the region. We note that the National Library of Australia holds an edition of 1813 and also the upper half of the 1844 edition, but no other institutional copies have been located. All of Steel's charts are very rare, but especially so with the original 4 sheets joined, blue backed and rolled.
Condition Description
Original blue backing. Minor soiling and damp staining, with a few larger spots of foxing and staining. A portion of the map has been sewn in the lower left corner.
